Well here is the problem. Im trying to build a server. It has two NIC's, One is connected straight to the modem. The other one is connected to another computer. I cant seem to get the server and the computer to see each other. It says disconnected. I have tried just about everything. I am using windows XP on both machines. I have done the setup home network and so on. Still doesnt work. Also even though it the other one says its connected i still cant access the web. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
My next option was to try WinGate software and see if that works.
Good idea or no?

Are you using a crossover cable between the two?

Thanks for your reply,
Yes I am
Turn off the XP firewalls and try it.
Are you positive it's a crossover cable and not a standard straight patch cable?

Firewalls are off..
Am I supposed to bridge the connections?
thanks for your reply

No, you don't bridge as far as I know - I believe you just set up the machine with 2 nics as an Internet gateway.
I don't use the wizard, because I avoid XP's handholding all I can. In Win2000 I simply enable sharing on the broadband connection TO the lan connection, this will set the lan card to 192.168.0.1 and enable it as a DHCP server for the other machines on the lan.
Wingate is a bad idea as are most 3rd party sharing apps. If you don't want to buy a router, the M$ ICS in Win2K and XP works as well as anything, but the 98se and ME versions can be nasty, I prefer to use the AnalogX Proxy with those OS's.
