Is it a good idea to use registry cleaners to clear out obsolete entries or is it too risky? Which do you recommend for Win XP?

unfortunetly, I am locked out of my xp admin account. Or I would send you the reg cleaner I use. M/S has one. I will try to post back to you soon. I am very careful as you point to the risk.
But I know what games etc... I have uninstalled and feel comfortable enough to dispose of some of those keys.

Has a pretty good App for removing files. I believe it is as safe as you want it to be.

I believe RegClean would work. ;)
Just make sure you know what have still on your system so you don't accidentally delete something you actually need.

EasyCleaner is the easiest. Run it, select all, delete.
It's a nobrainer.

I just ran EasyCleaner. It found 162 invalid registry entries!!!
Thanks guys. :)

I also really like RegScrubXP from http://www.lexunfreeware.com/.
It has never given me any trouble, and has a nice little tweak section that's also a nobrainer.

I use regcleaner and it's given me no trouble.
Just don't go crazy. You're cleaning the files left after you've removed a specific program so make sure everything matches up before you click remove.

Heh, who reads that stuff. To most, it won't make any sense anyhow, just select all, and hit the delete button. In 5 years, I've never had a problem with EasyCleaner, on win95, 98, 98SE, and XP.

Hi Jim,
I always knew I was weird. I read it.
It's taken me awhile but I've even begun to make sense out of it.
There may come a time when I can run a casual eye down the files listed and then hit "remove all" with confidence but I'm not quite there yet.

I've used RegCleaner for several years with no problems.
Regseeker is another good one.
