I have this great idea for a massive multiplayer game. My question is: how can I go about submitting my idea to a game developing company and still get some royalties?
Thanks.

Register your idea and then sell it.

You need to write it down and then send it to the office that takes care of the copyrights in the USA, I think. LawyerRon or CH would know better than me regarding this matter.

What exactly are you trying to do?
Do you have a story as well as a design idea or just an idea?

I have the idea, but I’m not sure it needs a storyline since it’s a massive multiplayer online game.

Even so, it needs to have an story.
You need to develop the universe in which the action will take place, the races, the character types, the locations, the rules, etc.

make sure you cover all bases, and don't tell anyone else anything, because there have been past instances where people attainted patents, but then a larger company took the idea nad changed it jsut enough such that they could get a separate patent, and then they manufactured it and put the guy who's idea it was out of business, but try asking a lawyer first.

I guess I should develop the storyline more. I think I’ll see if I can PM LayerRon.
I have heard of some people who have teamed up and built their own massive multiplayer games without the help of a developing company. What do you think of this?
Thanks

I think that all developing companies started that way.
It's the way I am starting mine here. Right now it's me and a programmer. As soon as the storyline and the engine are done I will look for an artist.
I have the musician already, but since music is not needed now he's not working with us currently.

Why not develop a game that runs in Linux instead? If we wanna get rid of M$ we need games that run in Linux.
Linux is not a decent gaming platform nowadays and that is holding it back from giving real fight to Mickysoft.

I seriously considered going 100% linux, but the amount of work required to paly a game is rediculous, os now im 100% windows :(
