I have a 3 1/2" floppy drive made by Mitsumi that I've had for almost 10 years. It has been used in about 7 of my computer builds and the thing just keeps on going. Well, today, i thought it was dead because i was getting the occasional "Disk I/O error", so I took it out of the case and sprayed it down real good with compressed air. A TON of dust came out and now the thing works like new again. It just won't die! I see no point in replacing something like this until it completely dies so I guess I saved myself 10 bucks by getting all the dust out of it lol. I guess this goes to show that Mitsumi floppy drives are great. Maybe in 10 more years I'll have to air-dust it again ;) (not like we'll be using floppies in 10 years lol)

Lol, it seems like only floppy drives can be used in build after build. :p

Same thing happened to me, the drive would take forever trying to find the floppy disk, then give an error.

so I dismantled the drive as far as I could and hit it with the air compressor, ran a Q-tip with alcohol over the heads, runs great.

definitley a rugged drive.

Lo and behold! How floppies cling desperately to life in a world that wants to see them extinct by the end of the year!

A floppy is something you have to steal out of your mom's computer when you need it, RJ :D

I like to use them for backing up my address book and favs, one can keep approx 10 versions of each (depending how many contacts you have), they are also great to use when a customer needs to format and reinstall, using Fdisk and Format, before reloading Win 9X
