My old comp was getting all sorts of really strange errors. There's hardly anything installed, so I decided to reformat and intall win98SE on it again. When I took out the HDD to connect it in my main system to transfer files, I noticed that one pin was bent all the way over and the one below it was pushed in about half way. The two "altered" pins were on the left end of IDE interface.

The plastic guard on the left has long since snapped off, which allowed the one pin to bend all the way to the left. I managed to straighten that pin, but am having trouble with the pin that has been pushed in. When I plug it into an IDE cable, it gets pushed in again.

The drive is a 13GB 5400rpm Fujitsu.

So what do you think? Is it salvagable or is the pin hopelessly broken internally?

if you can get to it, try some epoxy cement on the back side of the pin when it is pulled out in the correct posisition.

Well, I removed the circuit board from the HDD and low and behold, the pin was seperated from the wire on the board. I guess I'll have to try soldering it.
