3D Mark testing...

Every forum I visit, I always see people giving information about their system under different settings and backing it up with 3D Mark tests. My question is, wouldn't it make more sense to use SiSoft Sandra or PC Mark in order to more accurately show the improvement? I understand that in most cases, your 3D Mark Score will go up, but why not something more definite?

I agree, the PC Mark test is more accurate in showing overall power of your machine. Since a lot of PC users are gamers, the 3dMark test is used to show the gaming power you have. That is the main reason behind the popularity of the 3dMark test.

For instance, you wouldn't see a higher PCMark score after upgrading your video card.

I understand what both of you are saying. I just think when talking about overclocking or adding RAM or doing a hardware upgrade/addition, it might be more fitting to post a PC Mark or Sandra score instead of a 3d Mark score. Basically just wondering why people don't post scores using a benchmark utility that would show their gain where the upgrade made the most difference.
