Problem with a computer that I built a few months ago

There is a problem with the computer starting up. I keeps making a clicking noise and I get no picture on the screen. The lights on the front of the computer are a orange color. I had thought it was the hard drive so I replaced it today. The computer start up fine,but when It was in the process of formatting the hard drive it shut down. Also when you turn the computer on it does not want to shut off on the front. I have had to turn it off on the back. I am beginning to think that It might be the power supply. It is using an antec 350W power output. Do you think that I might need to replace the power supply?

There's a few things that it could be. First... to shut down an ATX system that is frozen for whatever reason... hold the power button in for 5 seconds... it will shut down.

It could be a problem with the power supply, but it could also be an overheating CPU or bad motherboard.

I tried what you said about holding the button down for 5 seconds and it did not work. If it is the cpu or the motherboard how can I pinpoint what the problem is? It keeps making a clicking noise when I turn it on and nothing comes up on the screen. The screen does not even turn on. So how do I pinpoint the problem?

Pull the motherboard from the case and follow these (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12753) instructions...you want to see if your system will POST or not.

Make sure everything is connected properly and seated fully in their slots.

If the system still will not POST with just the basic set up, start swapping parts. Try another power supply first...Antec was having problems with their power supplies last year.

maybe try clearing the CMOS. sometimes it will click (almost sounds like a fain camera click sound).

I changed the power supply and put a new hard drive in it and it worked fine. I then tied up the wires nice and neat and restarted it to be sure everything was OK, but now the hard drive is not being found. Now what do I do?

I found out what was wrong. I had a plug in the wrong place.
