cd-r coasters

I am having trouble writing a cd image file (.ISO) to my Phillips cd-writer.

The problem only happens when I use cd-r disc.

The same iso file writes just fine to cd-rw discs but not to cd-r.

i havent done it for a while but i think you have to format them before using them,but i could be wrong:)

What brand media are you using? What speed is it rated at? How fast is your burner? What burning program are you using? What speed are you burning at?

Sorry for all the questions, this just helps narrow the problem down some. HTH

newme: You only "format" CD-RW's for "drag and drop" to make them like a giant floppy.

okay thanks glc,i havent used a burner for over a year so i couldnt recall,but i used to use easy cd creater and i thuoght i used a format procedure with the cdr s,i stand corrected:)

I am using Verbatim cd-r, 74 min 650 mb #93791.
I do not see what speed they are rated for, but they worked before.
The drive is a Philips CDD4851 cd-r/rw max speed 12x.

In Windows explorer I just right click and copy image to cd.

U may want to try a different brand of CD'Rs. My wife's CD writer only like certain brands. I forgot what brand I used to use but hers always made coasters.

Right now we are using Optium or something like that, Biglots sells 50 for 10 dollars, while office max sales the same for 20 bucks.

they seem to be a good brand to me.

Try writing one at 1X, yes it will take forever but you may need to slow it down.
I have an old 2x writer worked fine for years but now it will make about 50 percent coasters unless i write at 1x then it is fine. I figure it is just wearing out.

Those Verbatum disks should be fine.

I wasn't aware that Windows was capable of burning isos like that - I thought you had to use Nero or EZ CD Creator to do it.

Same as that glc, thats why we need to know what software is being used please.

I am using Win XP home editon.
When I right click on a MP3 file it says "Copy to Audio CD" and Win Media player comes up.

When I right click on a ISO file it says "Copy Image to CD" and the CD Recording Wizard comes up.

I thought this function was part of XP .

I have tryed slower write speed without succsess.
It works fine to cd-rw, but not cd-r.

If you're burning .iso or .bin files, the best program you can get is Fireburner.
It is specifically designed for burning image files. Nero will also do it, but not as fast or as well as Fireburner.

You can get winiso and open the iso on your hard drive. Then just extract the contents to a folder and use them instead of burning a cd.
