Yeah so I was playing WSB2K3, and the game froze after I played an incredible game. The system started to act up about a week ago when I couldn't load my season that I was half way into. Now I can't even load the game. I'm pretty pissed since I spent mad money on the system and the games. What can I do? I don't even have the receipt, original box, or anything, I bought it about a year ago. Any advice please.

Is it covered by any warranty from Sony?

the early batch of PS2's simply break after a while. Sony used crappy parts (and they wont admit it :( ). Mine broke after two years of hard core playing. (hey, i wore out THREE DREAMCASTS!!!) Anyway, i just bought a new one with the updated fan and better lens.

First try compressed air. Spray the inside of the case well... what ever you do, do not use the q-tip swab cleaning method with the lens. that will only make things worse.

I will definetely try that, thanks. I can't believe such a reputable company would do that. This thing just broke down out of nowhere, I took good care of it. Now I have useless games, and I need a DVD player.

I have a PS2, and I barely use it; my PC is the only gaming machine I need! :D

um... I cleaned my ps2 lens with a cotton swab and it fixed the disc read errors I was getting for almost everry game I tried to run. So what's the problem?

I have one of the earlier versions of PS2 and a lot of the time it won't read a game or DVD that I put in there I have also had some trouble where I lost all my Vice City data and GT3 but anyway, after taking it halfway apart and spraying it down with compressed air it seems to be better, also my ps2 hates smudge marks and scratchs more then any CD player in the world I noticed that also, clean the tray and the CD's

darkmessenger03, sort of what TechSupport420 said. videogame consoles have always had one enemy.... dust. (remember blowing out the cartridges?) sure, swabbing dust off a lense might work, but it may also cause scratches that worsen or create new probs. In my cases (a bunch!), compressed air would have been a lot better to start out with.

I used some isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab to clean my lense, and it fixed every read error I was getting as well.

If its failing to load games at all you might want to check the rubber pad on the drive motor that spins up the cd's. When I took mine apart I found that this pad had accumlated a layer of "fuzz" that was allowing it to slip. Cleaned it up and was good to go.

if you do clean it, wash your finger real well and use alcohol (like alienware_dude said) to clean it and use your finger. cotton swabs ive found will just scratch it more sometimes...

Reputable company? Not for nothing, I love my PS2 and most Sony products, but thier support is very poor. One of the jokes about the Vertical standing PS2 was that after problems with early PSX's they had to be stood vertical to operate properly sometimes. Mine stood vertical to work untill the motor finally gave up....
