Help with windows 98 and internet explorer

Hello all,
I need help with the wifes computer........ when she starts it up everything seems fine........ but if you try to open internet explorer, my computer or recycle bin jusst to name a few it give you an explorer error and says that internet explorer will now shut down??? any suggestions....... don't really want to have to reload the machine since it hasn't been but a few months since i had to do so........

It is windows 98 and IE 5.5....... how do you do a repair on it?? I can't open a browser window to re download ie5.5 and can't open my computer or control panel to uninstall it and revert back to 4.0 that is on win98?? How else would that be done??

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Select IE5.5 > Click "Add/Remove"> In the pop-up, select "Repair". ;)

Have you ran an anti-virus on the machine? I ran into this some months back and it was a virus that caused it.

Try F-Prot, here (http://www.f-prot.com/support/fpdos_faq/06.html) are the instructions and here (http://www.f-prot.com/index.html) is the download. Get f-prot for dos. HTH
