Does your sound work properly other than with WMP, and did U upgrade WMP and did sound work before U upgraded?? What sound card is in there and what OS??
try uninstalling it and running regclean.
then check that any other audio devices are audible.
be sure all programs running in background are shut off
(AV,etc)
reinstall.

I know I've fixxed certain sound application problems with the right click of the little speaker icon in the tray and clicking on adjust audio properties, and playing around with those settings, using only preferred devices and such, but I don't really know that I am doing in there and for me its just hit and miss.

This may be too simple and I have only got an earlier version of it, but on the front (skin) of the player itself there is a little speaker icon and if this is not clicked on, no sound.
Worth a try.

cluicking on the speaker icon in tray and thenm trying to access audio properties results in error message saying a file is missing!--yet- the audio works fine with (justr) wunsdows open and with realplayer!
Im going to wipe the hardrive and do a fresh factory install using winXP...this comput shld be able to handle XP(PIII-500/128 ram).
Comput is due fior a factory OS reinstall as the present win98se has been on machine for 16 months..
I'd throw another 128mb ram in there if you want to install XP, I've worked with a P3-500 with 128 ram and XP is pretty sluggish. Win2K Pro is a better choice for that machine if you can get drivers from Compaq for it.
