i'm in the market for a new graphics card and monitor
i use my PC mainly for playing games....particuarly at LAN partys

for graphics card i was thinking either the ATI 9700 or 9800 - would appreciate input on if the 9800 is worth the extra money and if the 256 version is worth waiting for

can anyone give me tips on choosing a TFT monitor?
i'd like to go for an 18" with DVI connector

this one looks pretty good: Philips 180P2B 18" TFT LCD Monitor (http://www.savastore.com/products/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=Savastore&product%5Fid=10234787&pid=1)

The 256 9800 Pro is already out. Go with the ATI 9700 Pro or if you have the extra cash get the 9800. They both are excellent cards.

I have a Philips 15,1" Monitor and I'm very pleased with it. Very good quality monitor, so I believe the 18" will be good as well. The contrast ratio should be 300:1 or higher, the response time 40ms or lower. Also look if the viewing angle is ok for you.

it only has a life of 5 years!!! now that is something i would be concerned about. in addition, do you care if it only supports 24 bit color? other than that, that looks like a BEAUTIFUL monitor! 500 bucks for an 18 inch flatscreen w/ audio? that is quite a deal
