ATI is phasing out the 9500 pros and replacing them with 9600's because the 9500's are more powerful than ATI intended them to be (to make a long story short). If you can find a 9500 pro, snatch it up quick. Newegg is out for good, it seems, and they are one of the largest net retailers I know of, so that's an indication they're going fast.

Yes, the 9500 PRO is better than the 9600 cards.

Actually ATI stopped manufacturing the 9500 Pro becuase its too expensive to build.

I have a 9500pro, if you can find one grab it !
If not, Anandtech and tomshardware all have reviews that you can check and the 9600pro is a good card that just begs to be overclocked ( and beats the FX 5600 pro ).

Let the mad scientist out to play !

okay but is the 9700 realy worth the extra cash or would I essentially get the same results out of the 9600, I don't plan on OC'ing either card?

It's worth the extra cash if the rest of your rig can support it.

You just need a 4x or 8x AGP slot.

So is the 9500 pro similar to 9700 pro? If you looks around the 9700 pro will only cost you around $30 - $40 more and it seems like it will last you a little while longer performance wise for newer games.
Thanks,
Paul

I have the 9500 Pro. It functions very nicely. I did not go for the 9700 because it would be wasted on my P1.5 chip and my AGP only supports 4x.

The Radeon 9500 PRO is 8x compatible too. The only excuses for buying the Radeon 9500 PRO is that the buyer didn't want to throw down the extra cash for the 9700 PRO. If you have the money, get the 9700 PRO by all means. Twice as much bandwidth.
