Wow...I just put in my new Audigy 2 on Friday. It's EXCELLENT!!! Even with my garbage speakers, I can tell a big difference over the Motherboard sound (AC 97). I highly reccomend this to anybody looking to improve their sound quality!!! $112 and Free Shipping from NewEgg.com.
Next, I'm getting the Logitech Z-680s! Man, I heard these things on display at Best Buy a while back, what can I say but, Wow......

Ahh, another satisfied Creative convert. ;)
I always recommend an independent sound card over on-board sound, especially if the person is a gamer. Enjoy!

Yeah, I love the.....not sure what it's called....when i'm playing a FPS and a guy from the left shoots it only comes out of the left speaker, so I can tell where he is by the sound!

Anyone compare the Audigy 2 to the SB Live 5.1? I couldn't afford the extra $70 for the Audigy 2, so I had to go with the SB Live 5.1, and now I'm curious as to what I'm missing out on.

Well, I upgraded to an Audigy(not an Audigy2)from a SBLive! 5.1, and I noticed a difference in the sound quality. I assume it would be the same with the Audigy2.

Do the Audigy and Audigy2 have the three standard speaker jacks for Environmental Audio (front, rear, sub), or do they have the digital output only?

Don't know about the Audigy, but the Audigy 2 has the digitial output and sub, front, surround speaker outputs too.

Hey, now that I have 650 bucks to spend (graduation) I was wondering if you would recommend the Audigy 2 Platinum. I am willing to go overboard under my current budget circumstances! :)

Personally, I think the platinum is a waste of money. You're paying $60 more just for that front panel, which you probably don't need. I say just get the normal Audigy 2 unless for some reason you really want the front panel.

Get the regular Audigy2, and the 256MB 9800 Pro. ;)

Alright, i'll think about all that stuff.
Spyda, what does that mean?

I use the Audigy Platinum as I often have the front panel full of wires, but there is one other important thing to remember:: with the front panel installed, most cases with doors will not shut!!
My case doesn't have a door, but if I want to get another case, I'm stuck and choices are limited. If I had to do it over, I'd get the external breakout box instead of the drive bay panel.
That is, of course, if you have the need for the extra inputs...

Thanks for the info TwoRails. I dont have and never plan on getting a case with a door though! Its just my opinion, but i think doors are SO DAMN OLD FASHIONED. :D heck, my mom's P2 266 mhz "rocket" sports the snazzy door.

the 256MB 9800Pro's DDRII memory runs uber hot
and i love my door side case, my screw case just annoys me every time i need to go in it
