I want to setup a dialup internet server and router with an old Cyrix 6x86 PR150+. I also want it to be completely quiet. with the only fan being the one on the CPU.

Would it be safe to take the fan out of the PSU? or will it get too hot and die?

www.tomshardware just had review of power supplies. They mentioned the possibility of a fanless power supply. Some places are starting to sell power supply boards up to about 120 watts. You just plug in a AC-DC converter into the board for the 12 volt power. One of those Via Mini-ITX 500 Mhz boards can run without a fan. They make some Smart memory drives up to 1 Gig or it could run off of a pen drive on a USB PORT. You might find some small mini-itx boars that can boot off of a DOC (Disk on Chip) Socket. I saw some kind of site the other day where they had linux already loaded on the DOC chip. They sell the DOC chips with Linux on it.
