I set up the new computer and installed Win 98 SE on it but something keeps happening. Every time I try to set something up I keep getting the search thing that wants to copy a file from PRECOPY??? What is that and why is this happening? I try to get it to copy the file from the WIN CD but it won't. Please tell me how I can fix this?
Thanks, Jo

what are you trying to set up? if i unsterstand you right, you're trying to install drivers for your hardware and it doesnt want to load from the cd?
how are you doing this, in device manager? normally you can point to cd or type in the correct location when installing drivers.
could you give some more details or a screenshot wih the printscreen button or so( it copies an image of desktop to clipboard, you can copy it to a imaging program from there, i do this with paint shop pro)

PRECOPY is the file on the CD PRECOPY.CAB, you should find it in (assuming your CD-Rom is D:\) D:\WIN98.

D:\win98 is empty

If you're CD-Rom is D:\ (replace with the appropriate drive letter if not), there is no way that D:\WIN98 is empty as that is where ALL fo the Windows 98 setup files are located.

The set-up files were not copied to my Harddrive. They are no where to be found and believe me I have looked.

I'm talking about your CD-Rom drive.. not the hard drive.

Are you using a genuine MS Win 98SE CD or is it a burned copy?
HAL9000 is right, all the Win98SE setup files are in the Win98 folder. If they aren't in there, there's no way you're going to install the OS.
