I have windows 98fe on a 300mhz k6-2 wiht 256mb of ram. when i first boot windows i ahve 81% free resources is this good

Hey Rodney,
81% is not that bad, but you could probably gain some by culling some of the programs starting up when the computer is booted. A good site for figuring out what all the programs do in startup is here (http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm).
To see what is in startup just click the start button, go to run, type "msconfig" without the quotation marks and click the startup tab. Anything that doesn't need to start can be stopped by unchecking the box beside it.

I keep my PC's at 94% free at startup by doing what is suggested above. The only things I leave in startup is:
scanreg
systray

O it is okay to take everthing off but scanreg adn systray

Yes sorry about that little oversight, but just as cricket suggests. I forgot about those antivirus apps and such, as I have hardware firewall via the router and don't use antivirus, but by all means don't forget those...
