Hey all...

I got a satellite internet connection here. Im using this computer as a server(windows 2000, 2 network cards) to a wireless 4 port router. I have a client hooked up to the router and I can ping the server through the router(from the client). however I can't ping the client through the server and I can't ping the router(from the server)!!!!!

anyone know why?

Also , what is the gateway address supposed to be on the second NIC in the server thats connected to the router?

anyhelp appreciated thanks.

Just a followup....

I can ping the WAN ip on the router from the server, but i get no reply from the LAN IP. Yet, I can ping the server from the client through the router!!!

The server's gateway address should point to the address of the router which is connecting to the server.

You can't use a router like that with a satellite connection to the best of my knowledge, you use a standard hub/switch and either Windows ICS (DirecWay) or Winproxy (Starband). If you want wireless you plug a WAP into the hub/switch.

If your server has DHCP services running I would start by disabling DCHP on your router, if you had not already. Use the router as a HUB connecting to only the LAN ports. I have had similar issues. I do not know much about satellite IC connections but you do need unique Static address for each nic on the server. Default gateway in DHCP setup (configured on the server) should set to the IP of the NIC connecting to the router.

Hope this helps a little.

The above is assuming your are running WIN2K Advanced server and connecting your IC directly to this server.
