overclocking the 2000+

Hi, I am currently trying to overclock my amd xp 2000+.
I have succeeded fairly well at the moment and got it up to a 2200+ !!
I got this after a long while of trial and error (i even managed to get it up to a 2400+ but it overheated on win xp welcome screen and shut down!)
Can anyone help me as to how much you can actually overclock this cpu till it breaks eg. voltages, fsb, multiplier and all other bios settings.
I also have a fan that works up to a 2600+ i think i will also upgrade this to a water cooling system or a fan capable of dealing with the new 3200+!!!

I recommend you use Arctic Silver 3 for overclocking. Place fans inside the case that exhausts the hot air. If your system runs stable while overclocking then you can try a bit more if it crashes then you better pray it didn't fry the cpu.

i just looked at the arctic silver 3 and its just a silicon thing but better... what about the fan, do i need one??

YES! are you using the thermal pad/HSF that came with the cpu you have? You don't want to overclock it. Look at Thermaltake, Vantec and CoolerMaster HSF.

HSF stands for Heatsink/Fan. It is the cooler that you have on your cpu right now. Arctic Silver does make a difference. It lowers cpu temperatures up to 5 degrees Celcius, and every degree counts when overclocking.

HSF stand for Heatsink Fan: Its the fan that sits directly above your CPU, also called an "active heatsink" because it has moving parts, there is also the "passive heatsink", which is the little piece of metal that the fan sits on, all in an effort to disapate heat, and keep your CPU cool.:)

2200 is pretty good... I would say stake small steps, and whenever it gets unstable, thats when you quit...seeing as stability went out the window at 2200, you would leave it there.

A water cooling system is a little extensive dont you think? The things can cost upwards of 300+ dollars, all to get maybe an extra few hundred mgz...With processors at the speeds they are now a days it hardly seems necessary. But to each his own I guess:)

If you want to continue to overclock then you will have to add Arctic Silver 3. Don't overclock your cpu with that paste you have unless its stable, you don't want to go too far.

Hes already got it at 2200... Even with AS3, and a pretty little HS, hes only gonna be able to to get it at (guesstimate)2400...

Dont wanna sound silly but why dont you just trade in your 2000+ and buy a 2400+ or even a 2500+ . they are under 90$(2400+) at most places and you could get atleast 40$ for the 2000+. thats just my 2 cents

Which model of 2000+ do you have; the t-bred or the palomino? The T-breds oc much better than the older model. Basically you can do one or both of these; increase multiplier or increase front side bus.
If you want to increase your multiplier, you will have to unlock your chip [unless you have one of the newer boards that let you increase multiplier without unlocking] changing the fsb is done either in the bios or by jumper / dip switchs.
Since any one of these methods will void a warranty, I would just opt for buying a faster chip. With the prices falling so fast you can buy a 2400+ for $85.00 retail with a fan.
