View Full Version : one quick qustion
I just got dsl and i am pretty happy with it, i would like to have cable but in the small town i live in they dont offer it yet, my question is i have a 233cpu on my laptop, and it acts like i am in dial up, someone told my i need to get a router/firewall and they said it would speed up my connection... is this true, and should i spend the money on one????

Nope. A router/firewall isn't going to speed things up. The firewall which is a good thing will keep hackers off your pc.
You poor little old lappy is probably really lacking in video performance. How much ram do you have in it?
You can improve the performance by doing some broadband tweaks, try the tools at dslreports.com to see what will work for you.
i have 64 ram in it... about as high as it will go... i am ready for my new mobo....cant wait until iget the damn credit card so i can order...

If you are running WIN98 do as George suggested or go to www.pcpitstop.com and run the test there. If your receive buffer is set too low it will offer a free fix. It did wonders for my K6III 400 PC running WIN98.
