I'm a novice concerning this subject, however I have installed a number of NICS w/no problem. I'm using a 3Com Etherlink 10/100 PCI card connected to a 3Com SuperStack II switch. I've got a number of identical NICs connected to this same switch that are working properly. When I visit my Net Neighborhood, I notice that all the devices that are physically connected are present, including the one that I am having a problem with. The problem that I am having is that the 'connect' LED on the switch toggles on/off. All the properly working ones, of course, are on 100% of the time. I can still use my DSL but it's slower than a 24.4. Does someone have some wisdom for me? I'm stuck!

Have you tried swapping NICs? Put the "bad" NIC in a machine that is known to be working and get a known good NIC and put it in the "bad" machine and see what happens.

Also:

- Try a new patch cable
- Try getting the latest NIC drivers
- Try setting the NIC speed and duplex explicitly (don't set it to AUTO)
- Try a different switch port

Start there and let us know what happens
