I have problems to copy the red hat 9 cds, first I tried copying the entire cds to the HD and then burn the files to a cd.
Then I created an image file with nero and then burn the image to a cd.

No matter which method i use, when I test the media with the set up media check the following error is displayed.

Unable to read the disk checksum from primary volume descriptor. This probably means the disc was created without adding the checksum.

no checksum information available, unable to read media

What is that checksum?, why is not copied to the disk? I have the cds but I cannīt make copies because of this problem.

Red Hat 9
Win xp
nero 5.5.10.28

1) Where did you download the CD images from?
2) How exactly did you go about burning the images to CD with Nero?
3) Are you able to boot off the CD at all or does the system not detect it?

For the checksum, look at the link to the image on the website. There should be a series of numbers next to or below it labelled the MD5 checksum. (This is a means of verifying the integrity of files downloaded form the web.) Write that sequence down. Next, download the MD5 checker from the link on the site and save it to the same folder where you saved the CD images to. Enter the CMD console in Windows 2K/XP (or Command in Win9x) and navigate to the folder containing the images. Now type the following at the comamnd prompt:

MD5 [filename] where [filename] is the name of the CD image and press ENTER.
You should now see a series of numbers being returned as output. That is the MD5 checksum. Compare that with the number you got on the site and see if they match. If they do not, your CD image has been corrupted and you need to download it again.
