Hi :)

I haven't been to this forum in months but lemme tell you, it is so nice to have *somewhere* to come with my problems, hehe

I buillt my beautiful computer here with all your help and it is running like a charm :)

BUT

(there is always a but..........)

PC- cillion 2000 - the antivirus software that came with my Asus motherboard **sigh** I installed it right away when I put this computer together

and from day one it has been screwing up my Outlook Express-
it changes the timestamps on my email- my regular computer clock is working just fine

Also, it continually changes my ips server's name to localhost instead of the real name (where my email comes from) and my isp has told me that that can cause delays of up to a day as it forces the email to take a different routing path (I barely understand this)

Anyway, the service at PC-cillion is terrible. I tried solving these issues last fall and all they do is send inappilcable form-style emails. I am convinced they do not read the emails.

So I gave up at that time and lived with these issues but now I just want this software off my computer. I have tried to uninstall PC-cillion using the add/remove programs and can't. It says "installation failed" and I have tried quite a few times. **arg***

and now, when I reboot- I get an error message:

"real time I/O service does not work. please check the services applet in the windows control panel"

ok- that is in adminstrative tool-so I found it but I don't know what to do?

anyway, so I guess my questions are:

1) how do I remove this terrible software

2)how do I re-set my Outlook Express email timestamp back to normal?

thank you very much

I really don't know who else to ask-

Catherine

ps- I am on win2k and cable internet

I'm curious to see what others say. Some of the forum members here have recommended PC-Cillin as their AV program of choice. It's what just came w/ my new ASUS board, so now I'm a little nervous to install.

Anyone else experienced this problem?

I would reinstall PC-Cillin and then USE the Uninstaller supplied by PC-Cillin to uninstall it. Be sure to close PC-Cillin before removal.

The localhost setting is normal and doesn't affect my e-mail or cause delays for me. I have been using PC-Cillin for over 2 years on 4 computers and have had great service from them with very timely and helpful responses from their service department.

Well,

I phoned the 1-800 number and was impressed by their help. They emailed me a program PccUint.exe to uninstall the thing and all seemed to work great. I wish I had have known about the 1-800 number long ago. It is in the Philippenes btw.

But then, my graphics started screwing up: some pages in internet explorer started to freeze with the graphics *smearing* and then in Outlook- my calendar is all screwed up.

Also, almost immediately after uninstalling PC-cillin, my Logitec cordless keyboard started screwing up, with a time lag between pressing the keys and them showing up on the screen and some keys just not working period. I changed the batteries and re-synchronized and now it doesn't work period.

I phoned the 1-800 number again but they say its not their fault.

All I know is that my computer has been 100% fine for over a year and then this happens. I am totally stuck here. All I can think of is a total re-install of everything.

I stick by my guns about PC-cillin. Yes, I always got responses to my emails right away, but I couldn't understand them. They would send *canned* answers in hyperlink format that seemed to me to be unreleated to getting it fixed. These hyperlinks are called *solutions* and they would send bunches of them at a time. They also asked me for a *screen shot* of the localhost problem?

As for the ability to turn off PC-cilln or get it off my computer. Well, I never did figure out how to turn it off before trying to uninstall. And it seems they have at least changed things now with the upgrades because one can now uninstall it from the control panel at least. And, the person on the phone automatically knew he had to email me the PccUint.exe program, so they have obviously hit this problem lots of times in the past.

For me, I will never go near this software again. I think its because I am simply not an advanced enough computer user. I think if I was more advanced and understaood all about the ports numbers etc that their *solutions* refer to, I would not only find it easier but I would *enjoy* reading reams of solutions and the inner workings of the thing. But seeing as I look at my computer as a tool that I use, period, all of that just frustrates me. Plus some of their *solutions* just made no sense to me, such as disabling PC-cillin for email puposes?

Of all the software and hardware stuff I bought and installed on this beautiful computer, I only had problems with PC-cillin, so I know I am not a complete moron. I did have some troubles with my Logitec cordless keyboard and mouse but emails to them cleared it up and I had no troubles whatosever understanding Logitec's support, which is great btw.

Did PC-cillin screw up my graphics and Outlook and my keyboard? I don't know. All I know is that they stated screwing up right after we uninstalled the thing and now I see no other solution but to just wipe my drive clean.

The timestamp problem was completely my fault btw Although I had the time set on my clock correctly, I had the time zone set to GMT- ie London. It was my service provider who tipped me off on that.

So who knews, the current screwups my somehow be my fault too.

The localhost is the email scan of PCCillin. What it does it first download the mails to itself and then pass it on to you (in the simplest terms). Turn of email scan, and reset your mail server hosts and you should have no issues. I use mailscan myself and have no issues at all.
