Java applets dont work

I have Internet Explorer V. 5.5 and when i go on a site with java applets I only see a empty box with the icon of a paper with shapes. Its not my firewall so i realy dont know hot to get them working.

You do have java turned on in your browser settings dont you?

Its enabled but still doesnt work.

Have you tried downloading Java (http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp) and unchecking the virtual machine in the settings?

It may not be a problem with your computer.

It may be a problem with the website not installing the java applet properly or the java applet was removed from the web site. Or the link refering to the applet has changed and the webdesigner has not changed the applet to the proper link.
