This is one great program for those of us who have to have every chat program on earth so we never meet someone with a different IM server. This program intigrates AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, and IRC into one application. It is so much more efficient than running all five simmultaniously to talk to everyone. The free version is perfect, with no annoying pop-ups or ads whatsoever. The Pro version is sopposed to be great too, but the free version is perfect for what i need. It works great, with no downtime in 3 years of using it. I would recommend this to anyone! There is nothing bad about it! Tech support is great, you send an e-mail to them, and the actual programmer/designer e-mails u an answer back in less than 3 days! GREAT DEAL! Avalible at www.ceauleanstudios.com. I like the interface much better than all the others put together! It is very user friendly and easy to learn.

Skinable too. Good program.

You can also have more than one person logged on the program at a time (Note: When you go back to the prog you used before [e.g. Aim] you will have a "merged contacts" list)

skin aim with aimutation.com. kill aim ads with MyIM.

get free multiprotocol chat with either:

Miranda
http://www.miranda-im.org/

or GAIM
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

Trillian Pro was the most disappointing software purchase I ever made! I am not entirely thrilled with their "free" client either.

I really like trillian. I use it and aol messenger, but don't like a few things about trillian, those being: no html works in profiles, and buddy images dont display properly. Other than that it is a great piece of software.

Do you have version 0.74 and patch D? That is the version i have and buddy icons work fine.

Yep, Trillian is great. I've used it for probably 2 years now.

The only problem i've found with trilion is the profile for AIM. If they would just fix that it would be perfect.

The free version is a little confusing for the first time user. ;)

Trillian Pro is the best, I have been using it over a Year now and I would recommend it to anyone who uses more then one chat program

yup, Trillian is great, I will never install MSN or AIM/AOL/Yahoo because of the crap they leave behind, but Trillian allows me too use MSN w/o installing MSN, but then again I still use ICQ for ICQ instead of Trillian for ICQ LOL.

It only does the merged contacts in AIM, and it only does it if you add new conntacts to both names.

I have used the free version for a while now, and I think it's great. The only thing I have noticed is that file transfers between MSN users fail. File transfers through ICQ work just fine, though.

I love it.

Long time ago if I wanted to go on AIM, go on ICQ, and talk on IRC I would have to open up AIM, open up ICQ, and open up MiRC...That's just wasting RAM if you ask me..so I did the smart thing and get Trillian..now I can go on AIM, ICQ, and IRC within one program

Can't get better than Trillian when it comes to chatting. Used it for a while, always going to continue using Trillian Pro. By the way, this probably should have been posted in General Software.

Heh, this thread was posted over a year ago.

I don't use trillian much anymore, i got sick of it auto-merging contacts in AIM when my friends got on.

eheh funny on how opinions change after using a product for more than a day . I should start a poll on who uses more than 2 chat apps at the same time. Like why not tell your friends to use the same messenger as you. they all do the same job in the end. Thats what I did , I tell my friends Im either on IRC or MSN.

Bloated pile of donkey feces!

Not only is this bloatware, and a memory leaky resource hog, it also costs money for a version that has less features than the FREE Miranda client. Plain trillian has almost as many features as AIM+Aimuation (or any other base protocol + freeware ad-removing enhancements). If you really want to use mulitple identities or multiple protocols or both at the same time, use skins, and a host of plugins then you want to stay away from trillian like you would a notorious brothel.

You need to get youself a FREE copy of Miranda:

http://miranda-im.org

It has a FRIENDLY support community -- unlike the liberal cretins that troll the cerulean forums.

I don't know Trillian, but I'm using Miranda and it is great. Switched from ICQ to Miranda because Miranda isn't a ressource hog like ICQ, it uses less than a half of memory.

Not only is this bloatware...

If Trillian is really bloatware, then I don't like it.

Is the new free version somewhat of a resource hog? It's slow to connect to everything and it kind of has a split second lag when I minimize the boxes or just click on another window. Anybody else know what I'm talking about?

I have noticed that too with the free version of Trillian. I only use the chat a couple of times a week for file transfers and such, therefore won't buy the pro addition. And you are right about the lag time. I have also noticed file transfers between my friends that are on MSN fails every now and then.

I might try that Miranda others were talking about. Sounds like there are a few fans.

i love trillian, with the plug-ins you can get notifications of pop3 e-mail and i use it for RSS feeds, its everything i need and want, and sits up all the time with winamp on my other monitor. its legend.

I got this because I wanted to talk to some one outside of pcmech and man it is great. I have done a few things that I have no idea what it was, but I got it all fixed. Great progam if you have more than one IM service I would reccomend it to anyone who asked.

Trillian rocks. It combines many programs into one simple and easy to use program, that has no ads or mal-ware. The support forum is very helpful, and I would highly recommend Trillian to anybody that instant messages.

good program for integrating all your chat needs into one neat package.

But to a security freak like me there is some to be desired is all I will say.

Your PW's for instance can easily be extracted by someone who has access to your machine and the know how to do it. More easily so than extracting a remembered password from yahoo chat or aim etc etc.

Still though is that ever going to happen to us home folks ? probably not. Then its a great little program and I use it at home as well. ( just not at the work place).

I have to agree with you that for security reasons, our company does not allow employees to use public IM systems such as AIM, yahoo, etc. We are only allowed to use enterprise class IM systems as the Akeni Enterprise IM that we have installed. Trillian is a useful software to communicate with friends but not a good choice for office use.

I use Gaim, not to be confused with aol IM. It is similar to trillian but has been around a while previously it was made for linux but now it is available for windows. I find it to be just as good, almost. It provides support for all IM clients as trillian but is more simple for people who have an average amount of friends on instant messenger. I always support the open-source software as Gaim is, there is no buying anything for this program ^^

i have been using trillian pro for about 2 years. no major problems.i like it BUT:
-for some reason it doesnt automatically update my contacts new screen names
-it is not fully compatible with MSN. voice clips and those fancy smileys dont work.
-security is terrible. all your IM logs can be accessed manually through just browsing the trillian directory

rave, that is interesting and good to know in case i switch over...but most likely im going to stick with gaim. i don't use logs but they are convenient. it is too bad that either of these programs don't fully support all im protocols. but i refuse to have three different programs for one application

Minor detail on the latest version of Trillian, but when used in communicating with MSN, the user icons will only work if they are the available stock ones. It won't allow the use of your own graphic. I'm not sure if this is true when chatting with other clients. Just in case you wondered...

Kind of a tiny thing, so I'm guessing it won't be patched until the next version of Trillian is released.

Been using Trillian for a couple days now, and I must admit it is a handy little application but holds little practicallity for me as I only communicate though MSN, but I made the switch because it opens my emails in firefox rather than IE. That is the biggest plus so far.

I have used Trillian for up to a year now and I'll admit, I dont plan on going back to AIM anytime soon. Trillian just combines everything extremely well. The only program I used to have was initiating connections with people with AIM to transfer files, but that's seem to be fixed now. I do admit I wasn't happy years ago when it first came out - I uninstalled and went back to AIM - but I ended up giving it another shot when a friend of mine recommended it to me.

I use the free version and I'm very pleased. Since it's free, everyone ought to download it at least once and give it a try.

too bad there's no nudge feature on trillian, but I use it pretty much for AIM not msn since I enjoy MSN 8, and i dont like the merge list. lots of plugins tho so i'm pretty happy with pro. as good as gaim, better in someways, but gaim used less cpu and memory so... but diff program. better then that new aim tho, way too complicated.
