I have a Celeron 400mhz machine that I want to upgrade...

I have already decided that I want to put 256mb Ram into it, a new 60gb hard drive and an IDE controller card... However I also want to put a CD burner in it and every CD burner that I look at says that it requires at least an 850mhz Processor.

What I am wondering is if I stick this burner in the 400mhz machine will the drive just not be able to burn at 52x like it normally would? So would it just burn slower? or would it not burn at all?

I can't see why it wouldn't burn at all, I would think that it would just burn slower then its rated speed, but anyway, can someone help me out here?

Thanks...

But what I really want to know is, Is there anything stopping the 400mhz machine from being able to use the burner?

Would it not be able to use the burner? or would it use it, just not be able to burn at the full 52x?

No, I have a 366 celeron using a Cendyne 48x burner no problems. The cendyne is actually a Lite on Drive.

Burns at 48, with good media.

What CD Burning software do you use with your burner? Could the minimum requirements on the box refer to the burning software and not the burner itself?

I have a Celeron 400Mhz with an HP burner (800E something) doesn't say what it burns at not even on the burner itself. and I have no problems since i started using Nero.
