Hey,

I have a weird problem. While my good monitor is in the shop I'm having to use an ancient screen which I found in the attic. For some reason I'm not able to run my pc in 640x420 unless in safe mode, which is what I'm having to do now. My question is while I've been running it this way I keep getting windows that pop up and say random things, although they are not internet explorer windows (they're similar, but do not have the blue XP bar at the top or the red buttons). A few talk about themselves saying they are caused by something built into Windows XP and the only way to remove it is to go to the site they list----ww.blockmessenger.com This to me looks like some kind of virus which forces you to buy their software to remove it, or so people would think.

I ran ad aware and norton virus protection and found nothing. The stuff ad aware did find I deleted, but the stupid windows are still popping up.

I know this is really vague, but I'm stumped and would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

For this and other fixes, get XP-antispy, a very nice freeware proggie.

No, this is not MSN Messenger that's doing this, eldon - its the Messenger service in Windows.
