I built a computer for my dad with XP home in it and not even a week later it's already infected with a virus. And it's on kernel32.dll! Housecall caught it but it is not cleanable. It was called bkdr.evil or something like tha. Anybody know what that is?

Luckily it's a new build so there's really nothing on it so I can just reformat and reinstall.

Also weird thing was I downloaded the free AVG 6.0 and when I clicked on the exe file to set it up, it would extract but then it couldn't run setup.exe. Weird. I tried it from the administrator account too.

Another thing that was weird was I tried installing zone alarm, and zonealarm would not pop up on the system tray even though I would see it in task manager. It wasn't blocking anything either. I ran IE and ping and it wouldn't stop them. Oh well, I'lll just rreformat and reinstall.

Apparently, the troj is pretty complex, disallowing an av and a firewall to install or run.

I agree with Blakhart.
You've got one of the bugs that disables firewalls and anti-virus programs.
Wipe drive and reinstall.
Do you have any idea how you got it ?

nope no idea.. i released it to the wild (my family) and when I checked it a week later it had a virus. I've fixed it though. First thing I did was put avg and za on. :)
