Recently, my video card has been haveing a few problems, when i'm not using my computer it will go in to standby. when i take the computer out of standby the monitor light turns green but thier is no picture. i checked all the connections to and from the computer and found no problem. i opened the computer and examined the video card and heat sink on it. the heat sink was incredibly hot and i thought it was a heat problem. a few days ago i turned my computer on (after it had been off for about 14 hours) and i still had no picture on the monitor. Does anyone know of any thing i can do besides replacing it? I have found that i can get a picture on the monitor if i use a fan to cool the video card and let the computer go back into standby. I thought it could be a heat problem but it only started a few days ago.

I had that problem before what you may want to do is right click go to properties and then you will see display properties go to Screen Saver and then Power and look under System Standby and you should put NEVER. That should help.

i put system standby to never. i let the computer sit for about an hour came back and the monitor was turned off and i still had no picture. after shutting the computer down and letting the video card cool( it was incredibly hot) i turned the computer back on and could not get a picture. i reseated my video card and was able to get a picture back. i'm thinking of setting turn monitor off to never under the power settings or reapllying thermal compound to the heat sink on the card. Any other suggestions or ideas on what could be wrong?

make sure you dont have any screen saver running and try checking out your bios power mangement features, maybe that's the problem. Good luck!
