This is somewhat decent: http://www.hicom.net/~oedipus/vicug/lucent.html
I'm not sure how much "life" you're expecting with them, but they're pretty flat.

Text Aloud
Convert any text into voice and even to MP3. Listen to email, web pages, eBooks and documents on your computer or portable MP3 player.

It's free for a few weeks. Pretty nice program.
Read Please is also a good program. Read Please can use the Natural Voice ATT program which make the voices sound more lifelike. However, the Natural Voice is an extra cost.

Read Please also has a free version but it doesn't work with Natural Voices.
