I am getting the Intel P4 800mhz FSB processor and the Asus P4P800 Deluxe. At http://www.cpudatabase.com I see that people overclock this to 3.0GHz with the stock fan. Will this take life off of the processor, or is it fine to overclock it? Could I overclock it as much as possible with good temps and have no life taken off of it? Thank you.
What speed are you getting?

yes that is a excellant choice and very stable too,
just select the best ram you can afford
it overclocks aitomatically with the built in tunner in the bios
and you do not need any special cooling or fans
mine is the retail stock heat sink and fan and runs about 35C
if you choose this system you will have the best computering experience ever
I agree with the guys, great chip.
Me personally, I would make sure I have atleast 2 or 3 case fans, but thats only for piece of mind really, the retail intel heatsink is very good, and to OC it to 3.0 is a pretty average, and should handle it fine with 1 or 2 case fans. Just my opinion though;)

Overclocking theoretically will take some life off a CPU's entire life span...but it's not something you have to worry about. You'll probably upgrade your system long before the CPU is ready to fail because you've "shortened" it's life by overclocking it. They're talking in terms of decades here, not weeks or months or years. A CPU running at stock speeds with good cooling can literally run for a decades. Don't worry, you'll want a faster CPU long before your current CPU's life span is up.

Ok thank you, that cleared up my fears of overclocking. The only thing I have bought so far is the ram, which is damn good if you ask me: 2 Kingston HyperX 512mb DDR PC3500 CAS2. Also, can anyone reccomend any extra case fans that aren't too loud?
Also, a question about power supply. When you overclock it takes up more power? So here is my systems likely specs-
PENTIUM 4 2.40GHZ 800MHZ HT CPU (RETAIL)
Lite On 52x32x52x Beige Color CDRW Drive LTR-52327S - Retail
LITE-ON XJ-HD166S/XJ-HD165H 16X DVD ROM Drive - Retail
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR
WD 120GB UATA/100 HARD DRIVE 8MB BUFFER
Logitech BLACK Elite Keyboard - Retail
Samsung 955DF 19inch 18VIS .20MM 1600x1200
ASUS Motherboard for Intel Pentium 4 Processors, 800Mhz FSB Model# P4P800 Deluxe
Logitech MX 700 Cordless Optical Mouse (USB / PS2)
MICROSOFT Windows Professional Operating System
KINGSTON HyperX 184-pin 1GB Kit (2x 512MB) DDR (PC3500)
Logitech Z640 5.1 Speaker - Retail
Maybe a sound card.
How big of a power supply do I need for that. I am thinking 400w, but I cannot find any mid cases that come with a big PSU, I seel lots of cases I like, but only that larger ones come with big PSUs. I do like this case alot, Enermax CS-3191L-B3A, it comes with a 350w, will that be enough to run stable without any doubts?
