View Full Version : PC constantly reboots...
Any and all games reboot the PC within the first minute of running them. It frequently reboots when I'm downloading movies and music. Sometimes just loading web pages reboots the PC. Running adobe .... I almost wanna say its random most of the time except for the fact the PC idles for hours without rebooting. This used to be an occasional problem when I was running Windows ME (took it into the PC guys that put the PC together for me and they couldn't figure it out) but since I reformated and installed XP about 3 weeks ago its been nonstop. I used to be able to play for hours and only occasionaly have this problem before the XP install. I do believe this problem is inherrant to my PC but what could have been affected by the XP install?? I have been checking the syslog which I assume logs all activity before the shut down possibly the reason? Any advice would be appreciated.

First turn off the automatic reboot after system error. You will then get a blue screen with error message. Post that message back here and someone will surely help you. To turn off auto restart start/control panel/system/advanced tab/settings (under startup and recovery)/uncheck auto restart under recovery. I'm betting you have a memory problem. When you post back with the error message, try to include as much info about your system components as possible.
Afraid it is already off :(. I don't get a blue screen at all...

try this. start/run/type in dxdiag/ok check each page and see if any problems. Also, check device drivers for any conflicts. If both of those check ok, go to start/control panel/admin tools/check event viewer and see what the reboot errors were noted as

Yea, i am suspecting driver issues. Most likely in the graphics department. It may even be a card hardware problem. Do you have the latest drivers? Try reinstaling them anyway...
good luck.
You dont have that card overclocked do you?
Checked the event log and didnt tell me much. I will try getting all the latest drivers again incase I missed any. :( I dont understand why my PC is rebooting when I tell it not too heh. Not sure what could bypass the comand for the PC to remain on...

When you added xp, was it a clean install, an upgrade from previous OS or an addition to previous OS. Also, any hardware devices added or changed? Did you check for device driver conflicts? Wondering now if this isn't caused by a weak power supply. Is the room temp higher recently where you have the comp? Just some more things to check out.

It might be a memory issue with the memory fricking out. Do you have a spare stick of memory to try in it?

Pull out any extras Nic Card, Modem, any extra sticks of memory, disable virus scan, disable any program that does not need to be running. Then test it out, if it works add things a piece at a time, you can also change the video driver to the basic windows one also.

Try another stick of RAM and another power supply. I have seen bad RAM and poor Power Supply do this.
