View Full Version : Overclocked video card

Hello again!

I've got the vid card in my sig, and it was overclocked to the specs shown. They were by no means an extraordinary overclock, especially for this particular card, and I had run them for quite a while on both this system and another with even poorer cooling and they functioned perfectly in all gaming and testing environments. Every game I tried worked fine, as did both 3dmark 01 and 03: I carefully clocked it so there were absolutely no glitches, tearing, etc.

I've recently installed Morrowind and I've noticed that sometimes when I start it up and play, I'll be walking through an area and random polygons will "flicker." I know this is a sign of a struggling video card. Quitting out and opening it again fixes, as does rebooting, and setting the clock back to default on the vid card.

What's the deal? I don't think I have it unreasonably OCed (if there is such a thing :D I'm still a little new to it, and I went really slow when testing it and backed off as soon as I hit glitches) the card, and it doesn't have problems in anything else. Any ideas?

Well, after some screwing around, I realized it was an overclocking problem. Unreal 2 was also doing weird stuff until I set the card back to stock settings. It's not damaged though, it works just fine. But what could be the problem? Is it just a typical heat issue? I was thinking of getting some tweakmonster bga ramsinks and doing a little custom cooling mod for the card just for fun.

Thanks!
