Hi

I am moving town again and because I don't have a car and its quite far to go I am selling my 17" CRT screen and am going to buy another in my new town. I was thinking of getting myself a tft/lcd screen instead of a CRT. I use my computer for games, watching DVD's and doing some work.

I am aiming to spend around £300. Could anyone recommend a LCD screen, or tell me whether or not its a good option going for a flat screen.

Thanks
Haggis

Yep a TFT is a great monitor, also suitable for games and DVD, but they also have disadvantages, such as no 100% accurate colors, sharp picture only at native resolution, and contrast-dependand viewing-angle. Well, that's it.

If you can live with that and can afford a TFT, get one.

make sure you have the output from your video to match the flat screen.....nothing more frustrating than to be unable to hook up your new toy becasue your screen requires a digital outplut and your vid card does not have it....

I'd recommend a TFT as well. I switched all three of my computers from CRTs to TFTs and havn't had any problems with any of those activities you mentioned.

I'm still a fan of CRTs....especially for games, they look much better.

LCDs are *almost* there gaming/size wise, but not quite.

In the next year when there are 19" LCDs with response times in the ~15ms range they'll be viable, but as of now if you want a sizable gaming monitors, they're just not quite caught up yet.

Huh ? There are 17"/18" and 20" TFTs. . . they are comparable to 19" and 21" CRT.

Yeah, but the response time goes up with the size, all of the larger ones I've seen have been 25 to 30ms, which will give you some ghosting in games.

There are 15" LCDs with a 16ms response time, but I don't think I could go back to a 15" monitor :p.
