Leave Firewire Permanently Connected?

I just got a Pinnacle Deluxe capture card. It came with a firewire and an analog breakout box with a 26 pin connector. Question is:

Can I leave both the analog input box and the firewire permanently connected to the capture card, or do I plug them in only when needed?

I don't think there will be anything wrong by leaving it connected.
