Word 2002 is continually locking up when user is going to print. Have to use task manager to shut down as it stops responding. ANy ideas? It doesn't happen every time but frequently.

Thanks in advance.

What printer do you have?

Are there any other apps running while you are trying to print?

I'd also do a spyware clean with Spybot. This solved a very similar problem with a client's machine.

Check to see if background printing is enabled under the Print tab in Word's Options.

Spyware is software that is usually installed on your machine without your knowledge...or your full knowledge of what you're getting into...with some programs.

Spyware is a marketing tool which tracks your computer's movements on the internet, then sends that information to its owners who then sell it to advertisers. They then use your internet browsing habits to "target" you with their ads. If you, for example, look at a lot of sites about cars, you find that you'll start seeing more and more ads about cars on the sites you visit.

Spyware doesn't send personal information...like name, phone number, credit card number...so it's not all that evil in and of itself. What it does do is run in the background, eating up resources and using your bandwidth. The first tends to slow your computer down...sometimes, when badly infested with spyware, to the point where programs can't run properly...and the second slows down your internet browsing. At worst, spyware can mess things up so badly some programs won't work at all.

The solution is to download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot (http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=SPYBOT&tg=dl-2001&search=+Go%21+) and/or AdAware (http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=adaware&tg=dl-2001&search=+Go%21+) (you can use them both - Adaware is a little more user friendly). Let whichever one you choose clean up any spyware it finds.
