I have NOD32 which I feel is the best. What I am wondering is the possibility of a second AV to only use to run a scan from time to time as a second opinion. My understanding is that NOD doesn't have an unpacker so it would be good to have that. Does anyone have a suggestion?

How about just running HouseCall (http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp) when you feel the need to run a second AV.

I run AVG in Windows and run F-Prot in DOS.

Also try Panda online antivirus.
