I am currently running Windows ME OS but am thinking about upgrading to Windows XP HE. Do you think it would be worth the $100 to upgrade? Having very little problems with ME now that I got rid of Norton AV and using AVG but wondering if the upgrade would be worth it gaming and surfing? am using P4, 1.6, Asus P4S500 motherboard, MSI ti4200, WD 40G, 8mb HD, onboard sound. What's pc readers /users suggestions?

I would go with XP Home, it's more stable and handles resources alot better than any win9x. If you do choose to go XP, I recommend a clean install over the upgrade route.

I agree with Roger. Too many people report problems when upgrading. And you can find OEM versions of XP home for under $100. Clean install and an OS partition of about 6.5Gb and it'll run great.

If I go with clean installation, what would be the easiest way to save some files--pics of Grandchildren, few saved games..rest can be replaced easily. don't have cdrw - floppy disc????
Confused

You need to get a CDRW. They are relative inexpensive now ( I just picked up a extra one couple of months ago for $19.95 after rebates) or a second HD to back up to. Upgrade aside, if you loose a HD your pictures are probably gone along with everything else.

If the files aren't that big you can just email them to yourself as attachments- and then download them after you set up XP.
not important

Agreed. Go with XP and find a CDRW. Good Idea from Prew about e-mailing them.
If you don't have any problems, why? Do you need XP to do something your present setup can't?
