Hi all,

Just recently Norton is telling me I have viruses in my Windows folder, System32 folder and DLLCACHE folder

It is deleting them, but it would appear some are coming back

I am thinking of doing a format, but my PC is running just fine. And the virus occurences are becoming less and less so I think they're finally starting to leave me alone

One thing that is worrying me though is the sending of an email to the address swhite60 <swhite60@flash.net> without my knowledge

I know this because Norton popped up and said my ISP's mail server had rejected a message from me, funny, because outlook wasn't open and I hadn't sent anything!

Any ideas? The ISP told me the email address by the way

Thanks,

Jim

Can you post the names of these viruses?

One was SubSeven that's the only one I remember

No virus alerts have popped up for a while now though

If you have been sub7'd you need to wipe the drive. It has some "interesting" features that allows the perp to hide it, change its name, disable av, firewalls, and a slew of other things, and keep it from being deleted, maybe even through a format.

Moosoft's Cleaner should be able to kill sub7.

I'll download that as well then

Tbh though, I think that the viruses and mailer progs have finally all gone. I ran AdAware, Spybot, SwatIt, AVG and Norton through my computer now and it found a few things. Ran them all through again after a restart and they found nothing

And I haven't had the mail being sent thing for a couple of days.

I'll report back on the findings of Moosoft's Cleaner

Thanks again,

Jim

All of the programs above (including 'The Cleaner') all with latest updates are reporting my system has no viruses or trojans

So all seems fine for the moment

Thanks for your help

Jim
