three free softwares. Spybot, Ad-aware and Pop up stopper. Download one at a time in the order listed, run each one and leave em on your comp. Let Pop up stopper run when you start and run the other two as utilities about once a month. You can get all three at PCWorld.com/downloads/utilites

I'm using the Beta version of the Google Toolbar which blocks pop-ups 100% (I haven't got one I haven't wanted since I installed it).

It's Free.

And, it has an integrated google search.

IE required.

Guys,I have Pop Up Stopper and I kind of hate it.LAthough it does blocks pop ups,it's also over restrictive, like it doesn't let me open a new link such as when I click a link in a thread,it closes 1st party pop ups that some websites are required to have.Is the google toolbar also like this?and can some one please reccomend another good anti pop up proggie?

I just use the popup blocker thats in Mozilla, even makes a noise when one was supposed to come up, I also run a firewall (just the one that comes with winXP) and I dont get any popups ever.

I'm currently using popup stopper from Panicware. It blocks some legitimate windows. For example, this morning I paid my Verizon wireless bill online. When I click the Login box it brings up a new window to log into. I have to turn off popup stopper in order for the window to open.

Have you had any experience with the Google bar blocking legitimate windows? Can it be turned off easily if needed?
Thanks
Chas

If you want or need to open a new window with PopUpStopper, hold down the Control key as you clik. I believe the shift key will work also.

There is a button on the bar. If you want to allow pop-ups from the particular site you are on, click it. If you want to allow pop-ups everywhere temporarily, hold CNTRL and click it. To block pop-ups again, just click the bottom again.

sam21, not important nailed the "how to open blocked links" idea. You may want to right click the hand icon by the clock and check preferences, if you haven't. There's lots of adjustments there that let you personalize Stopper.

I know I can hold the CTRL button to let the pop up to pass through, but it's just a little inconvienient for me.I'm using the Google toolbar now and it's ok.One problem though, when I'm doing a search at Yahoo,a pop up would pop,and the Google toolbar doesn't close it,it minimize it..

does anyone else have this problem?

and also in pop up stopper free edition, there's nothing in preferences about letting pop ups needed by the website to run to pass through

I hate popups. They are evil. Especially when multiple ads continue to popup. *shivers*

spybot and adaware work as long as you dont return to the sites you got the ads from in the 1st place...becuase then they will redownload and you will need to run spybot and adaware to get rid of them, my suggestion is run spybot and adaware and stop looking at sites you shouldnt be looking at.....

Or just use Mozilla!
