It looks like Apple is going to be first with the 64bit processors in the new G5, which you can order, but I guess they are not ready yet. I bet they will have major problems getting it to run right, dont know if being first will be all that great, but also dont know if Apple has a choice.

I was on my wifes computer which is an old apple using dialup, after having dsl for a couple months now and clicking the submit button I waited for 3 or 4 min. nothing happened, so in frustration I clicked it a few more times. Sorry.

I'm sure it will run without too many hitches but I am still concerned about 64 bit processors running 32 bit apps. I hope Apple's mistakes/ triumphs can be a lesson for AMD with their new chip coming out this fall or December.

I don't like the new Apple marketing with the G5, they claim it to be the fastest PC but it hides the fact that it is still an Apple! People who buy Apples don't care about power (obviously). I think it is more of an attempt to slap us Windows users in the face. :D

Macs have never let me down as far as power is concerned. And, I have never claimed that Apple was better for games and things like that which do need more power, hence the reason I am going to build my own PC for games. All of my movie editing, and graphics work have been done perfectly on my Mac, and I have never had this need for more "power." So maybe you can elaborate a bit.

there was a time when macs were killer. when intel was first coming out with the pentium and putting on machines that were running win98 for the first time, plug n prey. Apple was making power macs that had scsi hdd's in them and even though the speeds of the cpus were close to the same, the macs were way faster, now however, things are alot different

When I was about to get my first computer I was seriously considering an Apple. I cannot remember the name of the model, it was back in 1993.

Price drove me off the Apple fold and ended up in the PC realm.

Having been a Mac user for years, I must say one of the most attractive aspects of PCs are indeed the price. I can build an awesome game PC for $1000, maybe even less!! The equivalent would cost me at least $2500-$3000 via Apple. I think I will make a PC, but only for games as of now. Apple has satisfied my needs for years, although aren't there problems between Adobe and Apple? This is a whole otehr discussion, but I think the survival of Apple depends more on Adobe than most people realize...

Macs contain proprietary hardware, thus you have to pay through the nose for it. Kind of the same thing with college text books. There is only a small fraction of the world using them, so the cost is spread out over fewer people resulting in a higher price.

Yes, very true. One hardware thing I noticed while checking out a new G4 in a store wa sthat it was only using 64 megs of video memory, but ran and looked as smooth as a friend's PC using 128 megs of video memory....why is this?

I heard that Apple said 'we dont need you for anything anymore but photoshop and reader' because final cut pro is way better then premeiere along with other software that comes with the mac now.

Premiere has umpteen file converters, transitions, and tools. I'm not sure that final cut pro compares in that respect. If it's just editing, then yeah, just about anything will work for you. Heck, even windows movie maker would work.

Of course I am talking about the fact that the Apple demographic has always been Parents of young kids and people who don't play games and basically yuppies. :D After our IBM crapped out our family moved to Apple and was very happy with it. It allowed us to learn the windows interface and it had cutesy graphical touches and a simplistic design.

Now that the years have passed, we own six PCs all with decent power compared to a mac. Power meaning the ability to process intense graphics for gaming and animation. Plus they are just flat out faster than macs. I hate using the G4s at school and so does every person who sits next to me it seems. I always say, "damn, I hate these pieces of s---" and the person next to me says, "yep me too." and then I look at the screen and the app I clicked on thirty seconds ago is still loading...

That is what I mean by "more power". The power to think. The power to animate and the power to haul butt! :D

even though i love my PC.....the Mac is someting different. For one thing, the OS is a lot more stable and i like the design.
i think of Apple as an inovator and less of a performer.

but nobody can doubt its design.even if you mod your PC, i would still rather go for a Mac styling. Plus their new layout of the PowerMac G5 is astounding.see it at the apple website.

In my opinion, Macs simply try to stay at the cutting edge of technology, sure they are a little faster, but they cost A LOT more...

What do Macs have that cant be put in a PC? DVD-burners, SCSI hard-drives, latest and greatest nVidia or ATI graphics cards? Simply put, there isn't much of anything(besides the CPU with a ton of cache :drools: ) that I actually consider good about a Mac.
