Apple's dependency on Adobe

I was wondering what everyone thinks about Apple's relationship with Adobe. I heard somewhere that the relations between the two companies are getting bad.....I think Apple depends on Adobe more than most people realize.....I have been a Mac user for years (planning on building a gaming PC :D ), and as someone that uses Macs a lot for graphics, losing Adobe would be the final straw for Apple.

Adobe stopped making versions of Premiere for the Mac. Now any future version of Premiere are going to be for the PC only.

From what I've read (I'm not an Apple User) is that Apple isn't dependant on Adobe for they have Final Cut Pro and other non-Adobe multimedia software. I can see Adobe's logic, they are not going to add additional sales from Apple users when they are already using something else and probably wouldn't buy redundant software.

I applaud Adobe's decision to lossen their ties to Apple. Our studio has been beta testing Premiere Pro for the past month. Having both Win-XPpro based and OS-X based systems I can honestly say Premiere Pro has so far exceeded any and all expectations we had. Premiere Pro offers more features, more customization, and a better user interface than Final Cut Pro (and Avid XpressDV) at a substantially lower price. Once Premiere Pro goes retail, we have decided to drop our 2 Mac edit suites and go exclusively with WinXPpro systems.

Premier was dropped because of Final Cut Express, Not Final Cut Pro. Express is $299 conpared to Premiers $699 and a better program at that, So it made no sense for Adobe to continue the product. The new photo management software was a windows only program because OS-X already has iPhoto built in for free, so that made no sense either, who would pay $50 for software they already have. The Apple/Adobe relationship will continue until Apple have a product that competes with Photoshop, then Adobe will probably be Wintel only.

Do I take it you think Final Cut Express is a superior product to Premiere Pro?

Having lived in a studio using both Macs and PCs for the last 15 or so years I think I have a good grasp of Apple's inability to keep up with the needs of video and film producers. They lost In-Sync and Canopus, and will soon lose Avid, Media100, Pinnacle, Boris and Adobe simpley because some genious at Apple figured Final Cut Pro (and now Final Cut Express) is the end all of NLE suites. What cost effective measure will there be on the Mac for motion graphics when the current and last offerings for After Effects, Commotion and Boris out live their usefulness?

Macs are slowly but surely becoming monoliths to a one company, one platform, one solution ideal. It's an ideal that will either kill the product or it will so limit it's users they will become nothing more than lemmings. That's why some many of the post houses my studio works with offer multiple Windows-based solutions but only one maybe two Mac solutions.

As far as we've seen using Premiere Pro the product is a Final Cut Pro killer. It does what Final Cut Pro only wishes it could do and does it for 1/3 the cost. Final Cut Express is a fairly sad attempt at a NLE -- suitable for the home user but no studio in it's right mind would employ such limiting technology towards it's profit sturcture.

Premier Pro, I have no idea, I have never heard of it let alone seen it. But as a Premier 6 user, yes I can saftely say Final Cut Express is a better product.

Oh, I see. Premier "Pro" is what they renamed Premier. I wonder why (FCP Maybe). And by the way, My wife would agree with you that premier is better than Final Cut (either version), she's editing our Feature with 6.5.

Wait until she sees Premiere Pro - nestable timelines, the easiest and arguably the most advanced color correction I've used (pick a color to be replaced and it happens throughout the entire clip), keyframeable effect parameters, HD support, real-time motion paths, and one of the best audio editors I've seen in a video package.
