I'm using the stock P4 HSF and as you know, it comes with a piece of thermal tape instead of thermal compound. Does anybody know, compared to Arctic silver 3 how good the thermal tape work? Would I benefit from taking the tape off and putting some AS3 on? Thanks!

Using A.S. 3 will maybe give you 2 - 3 degrees celcius, but I think it will void your warrenty.
I wouldnt bother with it unless you were getting an aftermarket heatsink or something, because the retail Intel stuff is pretty good.

Heh, all my warrenties were voided during the first week :)

The reason I ask is my processor is running 53C/127F which I think is a little hot. Just looking for a cheap way to cool it off a bit.

Well, if you want to, then go for it!
You could see if you could somehow fit another fan onto it, but I dont know how that would work since i dont know how they are held on...maybe something to work on for ya!

I have used it both ways, and see no differance with the new p4's

mine stays at what ever my normal room temp is, but never over 30C

Yeah bailey, my CPU runs at 100% 24/7 though....so it gets hot! Especially when I OC it and run it at 100%.

mine is on 24/7 for the past year, which tells me you got something not quite right.

at this very moment my cpu temp is 29C as reported in the bios and with pcprobe

Its on 24/7 and the processor is running at 100% of full capacity all that time. 2.67ghz a second forever and ever.

also I am useing the stock h/f , and the pad that came with it, just to see how well it works, I see no need to use as/3 with a p4
