How to check for 10/100 speed

How do you check the speed at which a card/onboard NIC is running in 98SE, 2k and XP?

10/100 carcd ect. will have 3 leds on them, if it is operating at 10 one light will be on and one will be data flashing.

100 3 leds, two green ones as in the above, and a third led orange or yellow to show it is operating at the 100 speed.

What about the ones with only 2 leds?

then maybe at the other end you will have three that will be lit,
all the 10/100 cards I have seen has 3, all the switching hubs will have the 3 led's you will know that way too

also just look at my connection and it will tell you the connection speed, it will also be indicated on the task bar as the network connection speed.

In Windows 2K/XP, Open up Networking, right click on your local area connection, select Status and it will tell you what your speed is capable of. Of course, you could still have a 10/100 NIC that is connecting to a 10 Switch so that it only connects at 10.

Copy a large file over the wire and time it, do the math to get the actual transfer rate.
