Hi all,

I have a small home network (2 machines) connected to a DSL line via a router, and all is good. However, I am about to move home to a property which doesn't yet have DSL available, but will very soon (just a couple of weeks). I therefore want to set up one of my PCs with a dialup connection to run alongside the existing DSL one, so I can use this while I wait for the line upgrade at the new property.

Easy, I thought - just buy a 56k modem, stick it in and off I go. However, it doesn't seem that easy. If I choose control panel --> internet options --> connections --> setup, to launch the new connection wizard, and proceed through selecting the "set up connection manually" option (I do have an old dialup account to use), the wizard only gives me the option of selecting a broadband connection. The dialup option is greyed out.

Am I doing something wrong, or is the computer just not detecting the dialup modem? The modem shows up in the device manager just fine.

I am using Win XP Pro, and the new modem is just a basic V92 internal.

Thanks in advance.

Control Panel > Network connections and on right side select "Create a new network connection"

OK, solved, turns out it was a registry problem. If anyone's interested the solution was deleting a couple of registry files as detailed at the bottom of this page (http://www.free-online.net/supportpages.html?a=254&Example_Session=5953e6eb47a749a35e215e1e2e868fc3)
