I am trying to burn as much video onto a CD as possible and was wondering what the best format was. I originally used mpeg and burned as a SVCD, but was only able to get approx 30 minutes on the CD. I want the CD to be able to play in my DVD player. I tried to use DivX but can't seem to get it to burn so it will play on my DVD player. If anyone knows the best way to get the best quantity and quality onto a CD-R, I would appreciate some help. Thanks in advance.

Also, the format that it is burned in doesn't have to necessarily be SVCD, just as long as it will play on most DVD players.

Well VCD and SVCD are the only standard formats for video on CD. If you only need to play it back on your own dvd player you can experiment with different settings and create a non-standard video cd (but always with MPEG-1 or -2, not DivX, as that's based on MPEG-4 and can only be played in a few dvd players) and look how your player plays that back.
If you want it to be played on most dvd players you better stay with VCD or SVCD and just lower the bitrate. If you then don't like the quality, think about getting a DVD burner they're not expensive anymore and for someone who wants to burn much video on a disc definitely recommended.
