I have my PC inside a kitchen cabinet. Would like to install a PC Fan in the side of it and run it to a wall outlet and switch. Anyone do this before? Need help with parts. What voltage and current do the fans run at? Any idea how to get a wall transformer that I could wire up? Any thoughts appreciated.

Welcome to PCMech!

Since you want to run this from a wall switch you could just get a 115v ac fan and use the home's electrical power to run it. A 4" Whisper model fan made by Rotron comes to mind. I have one for a similar use - I just contected a power cord to it and plugged it into a wall outlet.

Here's the specs:

Or you could just use any dc computer fan. The fan gets plugged into your computer power supply but you cut one of the wires and place a switch in between. If you want the switch far away like to reach the wall switch plate you would need to add wire where you made the cut on each end so the wires are long enough to reach the wall switch plate. The switch could just be an ordinary wall switch with one wire going to each of the two terminals.

This would be the cheaper of the two methods because of the cost of the rotron fan ~$20.

I agree, the Rotron fan would be the best way to do this, a 6 or 8 inch is what I would use, there quiet and also is used in industrial equipment that run 24/7.

If you want to use a computer fan, just buy or scavenge a 12v power adapter. Make sure it's rated for sufficient current, usually about 350ma. The current rating of both the adapter and the fan should be printed on the respective devices. Then merely solder the power supply to the fan with a switch in the middle and you've got it made.
