Hey all,
I recently bought a Sony Vaio Laptop 2.66 ghz P4, 512 MB RAM, with a Radeon 345 IGP. I know this is a decent video card (not the top of the line, but decent) however I noticed a strange phenomenon whilst using the card in some 3D applications/games. In Maya 4.5, the card handled 3D rendering of the models I was working on quite well.. however.. the 2D drawing capability of the card seems significantly less apt. The computer slowed down significantly when I was painting file textures using the Maya Paint Effects tool. Also, in the Half-Life mods I play (DOD, Specialists, etc), the card runs the game at around 70 fps constant at 1024 x 768 resolution. But, the fps drops 15-20 fps per sprite effect generated on the screen (most notably a muzzle flash). I've tried the card with the OEM drivers, the newest Omega drivers, as well as the new ATI Catlyst drivers (using the mobility modder). The card is performing the best with the Catlyst drivers.. however.. the 2D problem is still present. Is there any solution to this problem?
Thanks in Advance,
Bobby
