Hey,
Im buying a new HD tomorrow " Western Digital 40GB 7200RPM ATA100 8MB " and was wondering if theres a difference OTHER than space between that one and a 80 gig drive? Does it find the data at the same rates or does the size make a difference. Also Id like to know whats the best way to transfer data from my old POS drive to the new one or do I need to reinstall winXP on the new drive manually (with CD). tanks :)

reboot

It'll probably run faster than your older drive, but there is NO difference between that and an 80 gig, given the same rotation speed, and ATA rating, and buffer.
The best way to transfer stuff is with Norton's Ghost. PowerQuest's Drive Image will also do it.
I haven't found any freeware alternative that will do the job for Win2k or XP. If you have 98 or 98SE, then you can do it in DOS quite easily, with a program called xxcopy from http://www.xxcopy.com/ using the /clone switch.

Don't bother with the whole systemworks package, it's full of useless stuff, mostly bloatware, and too pricey. Just get a copy of Ghost2003 or Drive Image, that's all you'll need.
The 80 gig will be a nice addition :D

No need to buy Ghost - Western Digital Data Lifeguard Tools 10.0 will clone an XP NTFS drive.

reboot
