But why is the sygate DL through download.com? I would feel much safer DLing it from the company's own servers.

Download.com is reputable - if I were offering free software I sure would prefer to offload it to someone else's bandwidth.

Kerio for noob's, Sygate for the rest of us.
It's personal preference, but most of my customers are just not computer savvy enough to setup and use Sygate effectively. Kerio is easier for them to use and harder to mess up.
